Is it a ‘sin’ to skip breakfast if you want to lose weight?
We’ve been living with “eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper” mentality all our lives but as we grow older it becomes harder to stick to a specific meal schedule especially if you have a demanding job and other commitments. Find out if skipping breakfast has a negative effect on your weight loss journey.
What you eat is more important than when you eat
Yes, so technically you don’t have to worry about gaining weight if you skip breakfast.
In order to jumpstart your metabolism first thing in the morning, eat healthy food. You should only consume nutritious food that will help you feel full and satisfied. This way you won’t be starving by lunchtime and are likely to be mindful of what you eat for the rest of the day. An integrative cardiologist, Dr Stephen Sinatra shares that to control your insulin response and your body’s ability to absorb nutrients, you should consume low-glycemic foods for breakfast.
Eat only when you’re hungry
You don’t have to eat the very moment you open your eyes, instead wait for the hunger signal from your body and only then proceed to have a meal. Sometimes when your body is too tired or your sleep schedule is not consistent, your circadian rhythm which regulates hunger and appetite may be interrupted and you won’t be feeling hungry.
However, do not wait more than three hours after waking up to eat something as it may harm your digestive system and metabolism rate.
Listen to your body
Recent studies found that there is no difference in weight between those who eat breakfast and those who don’t so you need to learn to listen to your body, do not wait till you’re starving to eat as it may result in overeating.
