Do not do any of these after a full meal

If you normally sleep, smoke and bathe after a meal, then this article is for you! Find out what are the things you shouldn’t do after eating a full meal.

1. Don’t smoke

It’s best to fight the urge to smoke a cigarette after a meal because it can increase the risk of cancers all the way from the mouth, oesophagus, to the digestive system. The next time you’re about to light a cigarette after a meal, you should make a list in your head of all the forms of cancers that exist in the world…maybe that will help you to stay away from ciggies.

2. Don’t take a shower

The blood around the stomach flows to other parts of the body when you shower causing a delay in your digestion. Wait at least for half an hour to 45 minutes post meal time before taking a shower so that you allow your digestive system to do its job.

3. Don’t eat fruits

Fruits are healthy but you cannot have fruits at any time of the day because according to Macrobiotic Coach and Nutritionist, Shilpa Arora ND; “Fruits are a meal in itself. They should never be combined with the main meals. The sugar in fruits gets fermented if they are digested with heavy proteins that usually take time in digestive processes.” Best way to eat fruits is to have them an hour or two before or after a meal.

4. Don’t sleep

To avoid feeling sluggish, don’t sleep after a full meal. Avoid lying down as it will slow down the process of digestion and can make you feel bloated and cause heartburn. Wait at least two hours before you sleep.

5. Don’t drink tea

Tea is acidic especially if you just had protein in your meal, it will become harder to digest as the acid from the tea will harden the protein content.
