Winning start for Arsenal, Man United

Arsenal secured a comprehensive 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt while Manchester United were made to work for a 1-0 victory against Kazakhstan champions Astana in their UEFA Europa League group openers this morning.

Goals from academy gradates Joe Willock and Bukayo Saka as well as one from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 87th minute helped the Gunners end their three-game winless run in style at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt, Germany.

Arsenal, last year’s Europa League finalists, are top of Group F on goal difference after Standard Liege beat Vitoria 2-0 in the morning’s other game.

At Old Trafford, United fielded their youngest side for a European game since December 2012 against five-time Kazakhstan Premier League champions Astana.

And it was 17-year-old Mason Greenwood who scored his first senior goal to help the Red Devils secure a winning start to their Europa League campaign.

Group L’s other game saw Partizan Belgrade draw 2-2 with AZ Alkmaar, placing United at the top of the table.
