Villans hammer Liverpool 5-0!

Liverpool were knocked out of the Carabao Cup following a 5-0 thrashing by Aston Villa in the quarter-final this morning.

With Jurgen Klopp and his first team away in Qatar for the FIFA Club World Cup, it was up to Liverpool U-23 coach Neil Critchley and his youthful side to ensure their survival in the League Cup; something they were clearly not ready for.

Villa made 10 changes themselves with the Premier League still their top priority, but proved to be too strong for the young visitors as goals from Jonathan Kodjia (37′ & 45′), Conor Hourihane (14′), Wesley Moraes (92′) and an own goal by Morgan Boyes, helped seal their progression to the final four stage.

“It was a bit of a weird game, probably the weirdest one I’ve been involved in for a quarter-final of a major competition,” said Villa boss Dean Smith.

“I came through coaching those sorts of age groups. It was great to see them on that stage tonight, so we had to be very professional.”

Villa can now look forward to their first cup semi-final in five years with the other three quarter-final ties taking place tomorrow morning.
