Van Dijk: We believe
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is optimistic that his side can overturn their 3-0 deficit against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Former Reds player Luis Suarez lost the 27-year-old Dutch international in the box and deflected Jordi Alba’s cross past Alisson to give Barcelona an early lead in the first leg at the Nou Camp.
Liverpool were further punished in the later stages of the game thanks two goals from the magnificent Lionel Messi who grabbed his 599th and 600th for the club.
Despite knowing that they have a mountain to climb in the second leg, Van Dijk is adamant that Liverpool’s chances rest on their conviction it can be done.
“Obviously it’s 3-0 now and there’s a big job to do over at Anfield but we have shown throughout the season that we never give up so we have to just believe. We need everyone and we’ll see how it goes.
“We believe and we keep believing. We know how tough it is with the quality that they have throughout the whole pitch but we showed at times that we can definitely create good chances against them and make it difficult against them.
“They’ve still got the extra quality [in Messi] that turns up whenever he likes but we’ll try to do everything that’s possible to go through.
