Tough competition for Khairul Fahmi’s spot
Malaysia national goalkeeper and captain, Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, believes that his spot in the team is not guaranteed.
The 29-year-old, who plays for Melaka United at club level, thinks that availability of other outstanding players in the squad means that everyone will have to be on their toes and should not take things for granted.
Malaysia are set to face Kyrgyzstan tonight at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Paya Rumput and Khairul Fahmi said that it is the best opportunity for the players to prove their worth ahead of the AFF Suzuki Cup.
“Despite being captain of the team, I still think that there is strong competition for the goalkeeping spot in the Harimau Malaya squad due to the presence of other talented players.
“But I’m happy with the level of healthy competition in the team because it will spur us on to be better. This will definitely help us in the AFF Cup,” he said.
The AFF Suzuki Cup kicks off in November 2018.
