“Timor-Leste must improve domestic league”

Timor-Leste head coach Norio Tsukitate believes that the country must improve the quality of their domestic league in order for them to perform better on the international stage.

The 59-year-old Japanese national stated that countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia have benefited significantly from having competitive domestic leagues.

“Of course it requires money, coaches and facilities. But if Timor-Leste can change the situation of their domestic league, we can become a strong national side,” said Tsukitate.

Timor-Leste are set to face Malaysia in their second leg playoff of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
