Syria sack head coach Stange

The Syrian Arab Federation for Football have fired head coach Bernd Stange following their 2-0 defeat to Jordan in Group B of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup yesterday.

Goals from Musa Al-Taamari (26′) and Tareq Khattab (43′) ensured that Jordan remain top of the group having defeated Australia 1-0 in the opener.

It has yet to be confirmed who will be in charge of the Syrian squad for the rest of the tournament. Syria will next face defending champions Australia in the last match of Group B.

This makes Stange the second coach to be sacked during the 2019 edition of the AFC Asian Cup, with the first being Thailand’s head coach Milovan Rajevac – who was axed after his team suffered a 4-1 defeat against India in their opening match.
