Sumareh to be granted local player status

The Pahang Football Association’s (PBNP) appeal to register Gambian-born winger, Mohamadou Sumareh, as a local player ahead of the 2019 season has been accepted by the Malaysia Football League (MFL).

According to MFL Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Ramalingam, the key reason behind this decision is because Sumareh has proven that he warrants it following his contributions to the Malaysia national squad.

“Following a great deal of consideration, the MFL Board of Directors have decided that he (Sumareh) should be granted the local player status ahead of the new season thanks to his contributions to the Malaysia national squad at the recent AFF Suzuki Cup 2018.

“Thus, Sumareh will be allowed to register as a local player in the first transfer window of the 2019 season.

“This is a move in the right direction for the Malaysia Football League and the MFL Board of Directors believe that it is a fair decision to the PBNP team and the player,” he said.
