Spurs through after 7-goal thriller

Tottenham progressed to the final four of the UEFA Champions League on away goals rule following an entertaining 4-3 (Agg: 4-4) defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this morning.

Spurs, having won the first leg 1-0 and booked their spot in the next round after the tie finished 4-4 on aggregate, will next face Ajax Amsterdam for a place in the final against Liverpool or Barcelona.

The encounter at the Etihad proved to be one of the most remarkable matches in the competition’s history with a whopping four goals being scored in the first 11 minutes.

City had a stoppage time goal from Raheem Sterling, which would have sent them through, ruled out after a VAR review confirmed that forward Sergio Aguero was offside in the build-up.

Following the astounding victory, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said, “My players are heroes. We made history.”

While his counterpart, Pep Guardiola, whose dream of securing a historic quadruple has now come to an end, said,”It is cruel but it is what it is and we have to accept it.”
