Solari defiant despite UCL exit

Real Madrid were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League following their 4-1 (Agg: 5-3) defeat to Ajax at the Santiago Bernabéu this morning.

However, despite losing four consecutive home matches in all competitions, Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari insists that he will not quit his job.

“We’re sad and we’re annoyed. We did all we could but it was not enough.

“I’m here to work. We have to be professional and come back to work tomorrow. I have not come here to take on such a difficult moment at the club to then give up,” said the former Madrid player.

And when quipped about whether it would be fair for Real to sack him following their string of poor results, Solari replied, “That’s not a judgement I should make.

“Tomorrow we get back to training. We have a league game at the weekend. We all have the obligation, a professional duty and because of our hearts we owe to this team to come and train tomorrow and give our best.”
