Shebby: Akhyar must aim higher

Former Malaysia defender, Serbegeth Singh, has urged 19-year-old forward Akhyar Rashid to choose his team for next season wisely.

In a bid to get Akhyar’s signature, the Perlis Football Association (PFA) made an approach for the player at his place of residence over the weekend and there are a number of other clubs who are said to be also interested.

And Shebby believes that it would be wise for Akhyar to put a lot of thought into what jersey he will be donning next season.

“I don’t think he (Akhyar) will take the offer from Perlis. They are competing in the FAM League and that’s the third division of Malaysian football.

“Instead, a player like him should stay in the Super League and play for big teams such as JDT (Johor Darul Ta’zim), Selangor or Pahang. Not a team from a lower league.

“I’m not looking down on the lower leagues, it’s just that we are afraid his development might get affected because the quality of the lower leagues are not as good as the Super League which is far more competitive.

“Akhyar must aim higher. He must dream of playing in a better league. If he does accept the offer from Perlis, it would show that he is not an ambitious footballer,” said Shebby.
