Scotland humiliated by Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan, ranked 117th in the world, put up an outstanding display to defeat Scotland 3-0 in Group I of the UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifiers in Nursultan.

Michal Bilek’s side scored two goals within the first 10 minutes through Yuriy Pertsukh (6′) and Yan Vorogovskiy (10′) to leave an under-strength Scotland completely shell-shocked. Baktiyar Zainutdinov’s phenomenal header made it 3-0 six minutes into the second half.

Following the humbling defeat, Scotland’s captain on the night, Callum McGregor said, “We didn’t use the ball well enough, we didn’t do what we were asked to do, so the players have to put their hands up.

“It’s massive frustration. We know it’s a bad result and we have to go again. We have another game (against San Marino) in a few days to make steps to put it right.

“There’s not a lot we can say apart from that we didn’t do our jobs.”
