Ronaldo stars in “the worst ad in the history of ads”
Singapore-based e-Commerce portal Shopee has brought on board renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo as its brand ambassador and the ad is truly something to talk about.
The 30-second commercial features the Juventus forward celebrating his goal by doing a Shopee variant of the popular ‘Baby Shark’ song-and-dance sequence.
The ad is so cringe-worthy that Australia’s leading ad industry publication B&T actually called it “possibly the worst ad in the history of ads.”
The campaign is aimed at driving traffic to Shopee’s upcoming ‘9.9 Super Shopping Day’, and speaking about enlisting the services of the Portuguese superstar, CEO Chris Feng said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with one of the greatest athletes of our time.
“He is an inspiration to many, and his dedication to football matches the deep commitment we have towards our users. Together with Cristiano Ronaldo, we look forward to creating a lasting positive impact on our region.”
Ronaldo added that: “I am proud to be Shopee’s brand ambassador as we share the same ambition to be the best in our fields. I am always improving my game for my fans and my team, just as Shopee innovates to benefit their users in this region.
“I am excited by this partnership, and I look forward to creating more special moments for my fans together with Shopee.”
