Ronaldo sends Atletico packing

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to help Juventus bounce back from a two-goal first-leg deficit to beat Atletico Madrid 3-0 (Agg: 3-2) and reach the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

The Portuguese forward gave his side the breakthrough in the 27th minute, levelled the aggregate score in the 49th minute with a powerful header and clinched the decisive goal from the penalty spot with four minutes left to seal their progression to the next round.

The three goals against Diego Simeone’s side was his eighth hat-trick in the competition, putting him on level terms with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi. The talismanic player also took his tally against Atletico to 25 goals in 33 matches in all competitions.

Meanwhile at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City thrashed Bundesliga side Schalke 7-0 (Agg: 10-2) to book their spot in the final eight of the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side proved to be too strong for the visitors as they ran riot in front of their home supporters courtesy of goals from Sergio Aguero (35′ (P) & 38′), Leroy Sane (42′), Raheem Sterling (56′), Bernardo Silva (71′), Phil Foden (78′) and Gabriel Jesus (84′).
