Ronaldo scores 55th hat-trick

Captain Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 55th hat-trick of his career to help Portugal overcome Lithuania 6-0 in their Euro 2020 qualifiers at the Estádio Algarve in Almancil.

The 34-year-old Juventus forward has 98 international goals to his name and looks set to become the second player in history to score 100 goals for his country after Iran’s Ali Daei.

And despite being substituted in each of the club’s last two matches, Portugal coach Fernando Santos insists that he never had any doubts about Ronaldo.

“I asked him if he was OK to play, it was just a case of having a conversation with him. I never had any doubts about his condition, it was other people who had them. Nothing surprises me about Cristiano,” said Santos.
