Ronaldo: Records come looking for me!

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal in Portugal’s 2-1 defeat to Ukraine this morning was his 700th for club and country.

The Portugal captain scored a second-half penalty against Ukraine to bag his 95th strike for his country and the 34-year-old insisted that he doesn’t go chasing for records.

“Not just anyone can reach this figure,” he said in a post match interview.

“Thank you to my teammates, colleagues and coaches who have helped me to become the player I am. I am disappointed that we didn’t win, but proud of the team.

“How many records do I have? I don’t know. I have to enjoy the moment and thank those who helped me reach this impressive mark.

“Records come naturally – I don’t go looking for them, records come looking for me! Without having an obsession, they happen naturally.”

The five-time Ballon D’or winner is the sixth player in history to score 700 career goals or more, while his rival, Lionel Messi, is still at 672.
