Resilient AMD go out on penalties
The Mokhtar Dahari National Football Academy (AMD) U-14 team were knocked out of the CP-meiji Under 14 International Champions Cup semi-final by home side Buriram United in a penalty shootout last night.
AMD got off to a bright start with a goal from Muhammad Shahril Sobri in the 11th minute following some excellent work on the left flank.
Despite dominating much of the play in the opening stages, AMD were unable to hold on to the slender lead as Buriram equalised in the 16th minute through a header from Chanon Duangsri.
The tightly contested semi-final clash saw both sides cancel each other out with the score tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
AMD went into the penalty shootout with momentum in their favour, but lady luck looked the other way as Buriram booked their spot in the final with a 4-3 win.
The disappointing defeat aside, the young AMD Malaysia side should hold their heads up high having secured two wins out of two and conceding zero goals en route to the semi-finals.
AMD are set to face Thailand’s Suphanburi FC at 2.30pm in the 3rd/4th place clash of the CP-meiji Under 14 International Champions Cup.
