Reds down City to go 8 points clear
Liverpool defeated defending champions Manchester City 3-1 at Anfield to open up an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings.
The crucial win, courtesy of goals from Fabinho (6th minute), Mohamed Salah (13′) and Sadio Mane (51′), leaves Liverpool unbeaten at the top with 34 points from 12 games, eight ahead of Leicester City and Chelsea, and nine in front of Pep Guardiola’s fourth-placed City.
“They (City) were good,” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told the BBC. “Oh they were good and we had to defend with all we had but we scored incredible goals.
“It was so tough to play, the intensity of the game was so clear. It was all worth it, really great. The boys were completely focused and concentrated.
“It was so good. It is the only way we can beat City. Maybe other teams can do it a different way but this is the only way we can beat them.”
