Real Madrid humbled by PSG
A first-half double from Angel di Maria helped Paris Saint-Germain secure an astounding 3-0 win over Real Madrid in Group A of the UEFA Champions League this morning.
The Ligue 1 champions opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Argentinean Di Maria poked home a shot at the near post and the midfielder soon found the bottom corner of the goal from 20 metres out to double their lead.
The Spanish giants were far from their usual best as PSG, even without the suspended Neymar and injured Kylian Mbappe, missed several chances before Thomas Meunier added a goal in injury-time to complete the rout.
But there were some glimpses of class from the record 13-time European champions who surprisingly ended the game without a single shot on target.
“We had opportunities tonight,” said Real midfielder Casemiro. “We scored two goals which didn’t stand but we can’t have any excuses.”
