Qatar demolish UAE to reach final
Qatar were in scintillating from as they defeated hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) 4-0 to reach the final of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
The victory meant that Qatar will make their first ever appearance at the Asian Cup finals, where they are set to meet Japan this Friday.
Qatar opened the scoring with Boualem Khoukhi in the 22nd minute with Almoez Ali adding a second in the 37th.
Hassan Al-Haydos scored their third in the 80th minute with a sublime chip over UAE goalkeeper Khalid Eisa and Hamid Ismail finished off the scoring with a goal in injury time (93′).
While proving to be an entertaining fixture, the match was marred by crowd disruptions on two occasions where shoes and bottles were thrown at Qatari players celebrating after scoring.
Following the game, Qatar coach Felix Sanchez said, “I think the players were aware that it was going to be tough with the crowd but I think they controlled their emotions very well.
“It was difficult for the players, it’s normal in a semi-final to celebrate, and I think it was only a few people who behaved in a not proper way, most were fair. But it was a great game for us … I’m very proud and very happy.”
Guess Xavi Hernandez was spot on with his predictions, huh?
