Puskas winner takes a break from football
Mohd Faiz Subri’s phenomenal free kick goal against Pahang in the Super League may have earned him the FIFA Puskas award back in 2017, but a lot has changed for this Kedah-born player.
Faiz hammered his free kick effort goalwards, struck in a ‘knuckleball’ manner, producing a swerve so wicked that it left Pahang goalkeeper Mohd Nasril Nourdin with no chance.
The award placed him in the company of renowned players such as Neymar Jr, James Rodriguez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo, to name a few.
But now in 2019, things are very different for the 31-year-old player, to say the least. Reports claim that when Faiz’s professional contract ended in November last year, the Penang FA management called him in for a selection trial but he politely declined.
Faiz has instead opted to go back to his hometown in Jitra, Kedah to start a business with some friends, apart from lending his name to a perfume brand called Aspada Perfume.
However, it is believed that Faiz is hoping to make a comeback during the second transfer window in May 2019 as he is confident that he still has something to offer.
