K. Rajagopal’s PKNS FC side recorded a shock 1-0 away win over Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) to progress to the quarter-finals of the Shopee Malaysia FA Cup.

Despite dominating most of the play, JDT were unable to bounce back from Kpah Sherman’s headed goal in the 49th minute.

The Southern Tigers were however unfortunate to have a man sent off in the 10th minute after Kiko Insa was shown a straight red card for fouling PKNS FC player, Muhamad Faizat Mohamad Ghazali.

Even with 10 men, JDT looked the more menacing out of the two sides and came close to scoring on a few occasions, but ultimately none of their attempts bore fruit.

Following the match, Rajagopal said, “Eventhough we know JDT are a strong side, we came with a positive mindset to win. All the players were very committed and played well.

“We did not win by luck because we got past their defence a few times and Kpah Sherman also had a one-on-one chance with their goalkeeper.

“There’s no denying that luck plays a role in matches, but I want to say that this victory is not because of luck.

“My players did well against a very strong side.”
