PFAM in support of release clauses

The Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia (PFAM) insists that Malaysia League (M-League) teams are allowed to include buyout clauses or release clauses in the contracts of their players.

According to PFAM President, Rezal Zambery Yahya, the inclusion of release clauses in player contracts is a positive move to ensure that M-League teams are able to prevent their players from being “poached” by other teams.

“Before this, we only hear about contract redemptions, but now there are release clauses and it is a good thing.

“In fact, we are seeing teams set clauses as high as RM6 million and RM12 million. This shows that the teams are well aware about the importance of their assets. And this will indirectly help motivate the players to perform better because they know their worth.

“Other players might also try to perform better so that their teams set a high price for them. So for me, this (release clauses) is not an issue whatsoever,” he said.
