New format for FAM Cup
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) are set to introduce a new format for the FAM Cup, the third tier tournament after the Super League and Premier League, next year.
FAM Deputy President, Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, said that the new format will help strengthen the Malaysian League (M-League). And he also confirmed that the tournament will not be cancelled despite the low turnout rate.
“We are currently discussing a new format and will reach a conclusion soon. I believe that a good promotional campaign will help to draw in more teams,” said Datuk Yusoff during a press conference that was held over the weekend.
As of now, only six teams have signed up for next season’s edition – Terengganu FC II (TFCII), Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM FA), Kuching FA, Young Fighters FC, Perlis and the Kota Bharu Municipal Council.
