Moutinho stars as Wolves down Torino
Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho put on an impressive display to help Wolverhampton Wanderers defeat Italian side Torino 3-2 in the Europa League play-offs first leg at Stadio Olimpico.
Moutinho started his seventh game in 28 days and manager Nuno Espirito Santo was fully rewarded for sticking with the 32-year-old player.
The Portuguese international was key to the opening goal in the 43rd minute as he battled to win a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area and then whipped in the perfect delivery that saw Gleison Bremer inadvertently flick the ball into his own net.
However, following the win, Nuno warned that: “The tie is far from being over. We played good tonight. We were organised, we stayed in shape and produced some goals. But, like I said there is still one game to go.”
On why Moutinho has started every one of Wolves’ seven games, the manager added: “Because he respects himself and rests. And he is a fantastic player. It is a very busy schedule. We have to make good decisions so the team plays compact.”
