Morgan makes history in US win
Alex Morgan became the first player in FIFA Women’s World Cup history to score on her birthday after bagging a goal in United States’ (USA) 2-1 semi-final victory over England at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
USA took the lead in the first 10 minutes courtesy of a header from Christen Press but England’s Ellen White scored in the 19th minute to draw level.
Alex Morgan ended her four-game goal drought with a fine header just after the half-hour mark to help her side book a slot alongside either Sweden or the Netherlands in the Women’s World Cup final at Stade de Lyon on Monday.
The Americans are seeking their fourth title and are vying to be the first nation to win it back-to-back since Germany in 2003 and 2007.
