Messi double stuns Reds

Barcelona are one step closer to booking their spot in the UEFA Champions League final following a comprehensive 3-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg semi-final at the Nou Camp.

Lionel Messi’s 599th (75′) and 600th (82′) goals as well as Luis Suárez’ early strike (26′) against his former club gave Barcelona a commanding win in front of their home supporters.

The 31-year-old Argentine’s milestone goal was a moment of brilliance as he curled an unstoppable free kick into the top corner from distance to give his side a significant advantage ahead of the return leg at Anfield.

Following another remarkable performance, Messi said, “Four goals would have been better than three but this is a very good result.

“We know that the tie isn’t over, Anfield is a very difficult place to go but we’re happy with the super game we played tonight. They clearly wanted to score because an away goal means a lot but they didn’t and we have a great advantage.”
