Marta creates history!

Brazilian forward Marta Vieira da Silva became the first player ever to score at five different World Cups after clinching a goal in her side’s 3-2 defeat to Australia in France.

Marta opened the scoring with a record-extending 16th World Cup goal after 27 minutes, converting from the spot after Leticia Santos was fouled by Elise Kellond-Knight.

But her joy was short-lived as Australia bounced back from two goals down to hand the Brazil women’s team their first group stage defeat in 24 years.

Marta had previously scored at the 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 World Cups.

Brazil and Australia have three points each in Group C of the FIFA Women’s World Cup along with Italy, who are set to take on Jamaica on Saturday.
