Malaysia run riot against Timor-Leste
Malaysia recorded an impressive 5-1 (AGG: 12-2) win over Timor-Leste in the second leg playoff of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium yesterday.
It was an easy win for the Malaysia national team as striker Mohd Shahrel Fikri bagged a hat-trick through goals in the 10th, 16th and 63rd minute, while Mohamadou Sumareh (36′) and Mohd Akhyar Rashid (53′) completed the rout with one goal each.
Timor Leste were able to get a consolation goal through Rufino Gama in the 72nd minute.
Following the resounding victory, Malaysia head coach Tan Cheng Hoe said, “Overall I think our target was to qualify for the next round and we have achieved it. All the sacrifice of the players during the festive season and Ramadan month has paid off, they gave their best.
“Of course for today, I am quite satisfied with the overall performance of players, their attitude going into the match, and (they) played with full concentration. We need to get ready for the group stage next.”
