Malaysia run riot against Timor-Leste
The Malaysia Under 22 (U-22) football team recorded their first SEA Games 2019 win after defeating Timor-Leste 4-0 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Monday.
Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s side were on the offensive from the get-go and found themselves ahead as early as the 6th minute courtesy of an own goal from Filomeno Junior Da Costa.
In the 35th minute, a low cross from Syahmi was only headed out as far as Malaysia striker Hadi Fayyadh who slotted home their second goal of the game.
The 19-year-old bagged his second goal of the night with a simple tap-in in the 43rd minute following another defensive error by Timor-Leste.
And Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) winger Akhyar Rashid joined Fayyadh on the scoresheet with a finish from a tight angle in the 81st minute.
With Myanmar sealing a spot in the SEA Games 2019 semifinals following their victory yesterday, Malaysia, Cambodia and Philippines are now in a three-way battle to secure the second knockout spot from Group A.
Malaysia will take on Cambodia while Philippines face Timor-Leste in their final group stage games on December 4.
