Malaysia defeat Nepal in friendly

The Harimau Malaya squad defeated Nepal 2-0 in a Class A international friendly match at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium ahead of their upcoming World Cup 2022 and Asia Cup 2023 qualifiers.

Nepal, ranked 7 places higher in the world football governing body (FIFA) rankings, found themselves trailing in the 51st minute after conceding a penalty, which was tucked away brilliantly by Malaysia winger Safawi Rasid, and defender Shahrul Saad doubled that lead with a goal 8 minutes from time.

The win will allow Harimau Malaya head coach Tan Cheng Hoe to get a clearer picture of his team’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of their crucial double-encounter with Timor-Leste at the National Stadium on 7 and 11 June.
