Malaysia claim comeback win over Thailand
The Harimau Malaya bounced back from one goal down to defeat Thailand 2-1 in the World Cup 2022/Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
The visitors opened the scoring in the sixth minute when striker Chanathip Songkrasin made his way into the penalty box to connect with an excellent pass from Ekanit Panya, who did well to evade his defender and find his teammate.
However, the game was back on level terms in the 26th minute as Malaysia found the equaliser through midfielder Brendan Gan who collected Mohamed Syamer Kutty’s through pass from the left to put the ball into the bottom right corner beyond Thailand goalkeeper Tedsungnoen Siwarak.
And Gan turned from scorer to provider in the 56th minute when he flicked an exquisite pass over the Thai defenders to an unmarked Mohamadou Sumareh who blasted his shot into the roof of the net to score Malaysia’s winning goal.
Malaysia now have six points from four matches in Group G of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.
