London clubs through to next round

Arsenal and Chelsea both recorded emphatic victories in their respective ties against, Rennes and Dynamo Kiev, to progress to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

The Gunners overturned a 3-1 first-leg deficit to beat Rennes 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium courtesy of goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (5′ & 72′) and 21-year-old Ainsley Maitland-Niles (15′).

Meanwhile Chelsea turned on the style against Dynamo Kiev as a hat-trick from Olivier Giroud (5′, 33′ & 59′) and goals from Marcos Alonso and Callum Hudson-Odoi helped them seal a 5-0 (Agg:8-0) win at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev.

The resounding victory helps maintain Chelsea’s momentum and is a much-needed turnaround for Maurizio Sarri, who seemed on the verge of being sacked just a couple of weeks ago.

Both sides will now wait for tonight’s draw to see who they come up against in the quarterfinals, with a spot in the Champions League on offer for the winner of the second-tier European continental tournament.
