Liverpool hand Arsenal footballing lesson

Premier League leaders Liverpool defeated Unai Emery’s Arsenal side 5-1 to strengthen their position at the top ahead of the New Year.

Meanwhile, second-placed Tottenham suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at home to Wolves, leaving them 9 points adrift of Jurgen Klopp’s impressive Reds side.

Roberto Firmino scored a hat-trick to take his tally to eight goals in as many games, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane also getting on the scoresheet after the visitors had taken an early lead through 21-year-old Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The Reds have now gone 31 league matches without defeat at Anfield, their joint-third longest run, and also extended their unbeaten start to 20 matches.
