Liverpool go top!

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side returned to the top of the English Premier League following a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

Toby Alderweireld’s 90th-minute own-goal proved to cost third-placed Tottenham dearly as the Reds moved two points clear of title rivals Manchester City, having played a game more.

Liverpool took the lead in the 16th minute through Roberto Firmino who headed in a brilliant cross from Andrew Robertson.

Despite lacking clear cut chances in the second half, Tottenham were able to equalise in the 70th minute courtesy of a close range effort from Lucas Moura.

The night’s other match saw Chelsea defeat Cardiff City 2-1, thanks to an offside equalising goal by defender Cezar Azpilcueta.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek headed the winner in the 90th minute to put sixth-placed Chelsea within one point of third-placed Tottenham and fourth-placed Manchester United.
