Liverpool, Chelsea through to next round
Liverpool and Chelsea have progressed to the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup following victories over Everton and Nottingham Forest, respectively.
18-year-old academy graduate, Curtis Jones, was the hero for a much changed Liverpool side as he unleashed a right-footed shot from the edge of the box and beyond the outstretched Jordan Pickford into the top corner in the 71st minute to seal the hosts’ place in the next round.
Following the match, Jones told BBC Sport,”I just go out there and try and play my game. It’s been frustrating at times being on the bench and then getting a taste on the pitch and then being back on the bench.
“I’ve been basically begging to come on but hopefully I’ve topped it off with a good goal. I can’t sum up my emotions. For me it’s huge just being around this team every day and learning from this group of players. There are world-class players all over this team but I think I went out and showed what I could do on the pitch.”
Meanwhile at Stamford Bridge, Callum Hudson-Odoi put on a scintillating display to help Chelsea defeat Championship side Nottingham Forest 2-0.
19-year-old Hudson-Odoi opened the scoring for the hosts early on following a brilliant team move in the 6th minute.
Ross Barkley then doubled the scoreline in the 33rd minute, tucking away a close-range rebound after Everton goalkeeper Jordan Smith could only parry away a fine effort by Hudson-Odoi.
