Kedah made to work for win

Selangor United put up a tough fight before succumbing to a 3-2 defeat against Kedah in the Malaysia FA Cup 2019 at the Darul Aman Stadium.

Kedah were stunned by an early goal from Selangor United’s Norhafizzuan Jailani in the ninth minute following a defensive error by Syazwan Tajudin.

And the M3 League side doubled their tally three minutes into the second half courtesy of a strike from import player Sergio Fabio.

Having been on the back foot for most of the first half, Kedah got their first goal of the game in the 53rd minute through import player Jonatan Bauman who did well to send his shot past Selangor United goalkeeper Nuraizat.

And Zaquan Adha maintained their resurgence with an opportunistic finish in the 67th minute following a sloppy parry by Nuraizat.

The visitors had a golden opportunity to deliver the finishing blow after Sergio Fabio was brought down in the box in the 75th minute but the chance was squandered by R Thivagar who failed to convert the penalty.

With the score tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes, the game went into extra time during which Rodriguez stepped up to help bag Kedah’s winning goal in the 111th minute and thus sealing their progression to the third round.
