Japan, Australia & UAE through to Last 8

Japan, Australia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) have booked their spots in the quarter-finals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup after defeating Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, respectively.

Takehiro Tomiyasu’s solitary goal in the 20th minute at the Al-Sharjah Stadium was enough to help Japan reach the AFC Asian Cup quarter-finals for the eighth consecutive time.

Meanwhile at the Sheikh Khalifa International Stadium in UAE, Australia edged out Uzbekistan in a thrilling penalty shootout (4-2) after the score had been tied at 0-0.

UAE and Kyrgyzstan played out a nail-biting Round of 16 match (3-2) with Ahmed Khalil clinching the victory for his side in the 103rd minute through a penalty.
