Irfan: Give me another chance
Irfan Zakaria admits that he didn’t perform well during Malaysia’s semi-final clash against Thailand in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018.
The 23-year-old was brought in to replace Aidil Zafuan in the 18th minute and was unfortunate to score an own goal just three minutes later.
The own goal aside, Irfan, also made a couple of glaring errors during the match in Bangkok.
But the Kuala Lumpur player is now determined to make up for his mistakes, if given another chance by Malaysia coach Tan Cheng Hoe. The game against Thailand was his first appearance in the tournament.
“I’m very disappointed with my performance because it was my first game in the tournament. But now we are in the final and it’s a do-or-die situation. I’m ready to step up.
“If given another chance, I will do my best for the team,” he said.
Irfan also admitted that he felt nervous about replacing the injured, Aidil.
“Every player will definitely feel nervous when called upon in a big match such as that. But despite the errors I made, the coach and my teammates were very supportive and helped me regain my confidence.
“The coach didn’t blame me for the mistakes I made and I’m ready to accept his decision. But if given the opportunity, I will give it my all,” said Irfan.
