Irfan Bakti steps down
Terengganu FC (TFC) head coach Irfan Bakti Abu Salim has stepped down following their abysmal performance in the M-League this season.
Their defeat to Petaling Jaya City FC (PJ City) in the Malaysia Cup quarter-final appeared to be the final straw in a season where they have also failed to shine in the Super League.
The news regarding Irfan’s resignation was shared by Terengganu Football Club (PBSNT) Secretary-General, Datuk Tengku Farouk Husin Tengku Abdul Jalil in an official statement last night.
In that statement, Tengku Farouk said assistant head coach Mohamad Nafuzi Zain will take charge temporarily until they find a suitable replacement.
Tengku Farouk also added that Irfan’s immense contributions to the club will always be remembered.
“In 2011, he helped Terengganu win the FA Cup, finish as runners-up in the Malaysia Cup and the Super League as well as qualify for the AFC 2012 for the first time ever in the club’s history.
“During his second stint in 2017, he helped us finish second in the Premier League which granted us promotion to the Super League 2018 and led us to the Malaysia Cup 2018 final. We will never forget his contributions to the club,” said Tengku Farouk.
