Guardiola compares Aguero to Messi

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola hailed Sergio Aguero as a “legend” after the forward made history by becoming the most prolific overseas player in English football.

The Argentinean’s hat-trick in Manchester City’s 6-1 win at Aston Villa saw him reach 177 goals and move past former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry, who finished at 175.

Aguero’s hat-trick at Villa Park this morning was his 12th since joining City in 2011 — another record, overtaking Newcastle United and England legend Alan Shearer.

“He’s a legend [Aguero] and the legend rose tonight. He’s an incredible person and I like to work with nice people,” said Guardiola following the match.

Whereas in regards to the 31-year-old extending his contract at City beyond the end of next season, the Guardiola said,”It depends on him and the club. It’s his decision. There are many of these kind of players through the history of English football, and he helps to make the Premier League and English football better.

“The best [player I’ve worked with] is Messi but of the rest, Sergio is absolutely one of the best, no doubt. When you break this record, held by another incredible legend like Titi Henry, it means you’ve been consistent for many years.

“It was an honour to be here the day he achieved it. Hopefully he can score many more. It depends on him.”
