Faisal thrilled with call-up
Pahang midfielder Faisal Abdul Halim admits that he was shocked to receive the call-up for Malaysia’s upcoming World Cup 2022 Qualifier playoff against Timor-Leste.
The 21-year-old said he did not expect national head coach Tan Cheng Hoe to include him in the 26-man squad.
“At first, I didn’t believe it when (Mohamadou) Sumareh called and congratulated me for being selected in the Harimau Malaya squad… our captain, Matthew Davies also gave me some words of encouragement after finding out and he asked me to take full advantage of this chance because I will be able to learn a lot from the senior squad.
“Even though at first I thought that they were just joking, but after getting confirmation, I feel very lucky and this is a sign for me to work harder so that I can repay coach Tan Cheng Hoe’s faith in me,” he said.
Malaysia are set to face Timor-Leste in the World Cup 2022 Qualifier playoff on 7 and 11 June.
