Emery backs Arsenal to progress

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is confident that his team will make it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League despite their 1-0 defeat to BATE Borisov this morning.

The Gunners were well below par at the Borisov Arena in Belarus and slumped to a shock loss courtesy of Stanislav Dragan’s goal in the 45th minute.

Despite the performance, Emery opted to not criticise his players and remains confident that Arsenal will overturn the deficit in next week’s crucial return leg.

“We play another 90 minutes next week and I’m sure it’s going to be different. We worked. I am happy with players’ effort. Our big opportunity is next week at home.

“Today is not the result we wanted. We deserved more but they worked for this. Next week is going to be different,” he said.
