Cheng Hoe’s tactics questioned
Tan Cheng Hoe’s credibility as the national coach of Malaysia has been called into question following their 2-0 defeat to Vietnam in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018.
Former Malaysia national player, Bakri Ibni, believes that Cheng Hoe got his tactics absolutely wrong in what should have been a relatively comfortable match.
“Vietnam are not a very strong side and they were also afraid to go up against us. This was obvious because they took a very defensive approach and tried to hit us on the counter instead.
“The thing that confuses me the most is why we, as the visiting side, took an offensive approach when it’s usually the home side that do it. It was upside down, we were attacking while Vietnam chose to defend. The coach should have instructed the players to close down the Vietnam players,” said Bakri.
Malaysia are set to host Group A leaders Myanmar in a do-or-die match at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on 24th November.
