Cheng Hoe will be given time

President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, said national coach Tan Cheng Hoe will be given time to prove his worth.

He said although their recent performances have not been too convincing, Cheng Hoe deserves to be given time and space to fix their weaknesses.

“I’ve said since my appointment as president, we are targeting a spot in the finals for the SEA Games and AFF Cup. But that does not mean we will fire the coach if the said targets are not achieved. We will analyse the situation,” said Datuk Hamidin.

He added that the FAM will reevaluate Cheng Hoe’s squad after their international friendly against Maldives on November 3rd.

“Sometimes football is a bit hard to understand. Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s team (under-23) defeated South Korea in Jakarta by scoring two goals despite only creating two clear cut chances.

“But in the match against Kyrgyzstan, we had 15 chances but couldn’t score and ended up losing. We will wait for the match against Maldives and the AFF Cup. We must give Cheng Hoe time,” he said.
