Cheng Hoe unfazed by Indonesia’s naturalised players
Indonesia are set to field a total of six naturalised in their upcoming Group G World Cup 2022/Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers clash against Malaysia next month.
Head coach Simon McMenemy has called up the likes of Osas Saha (Tira-Persikabo), Otavio Dutra (Persebaya), Victor Igbonefo (PTT Rayong), Stefano Lilipaly (Bali United), Alberto Goncalves (Madura United) and Greg Nwokolo (Madura United).
Well aware of the daunting task his squad are set to face at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on 5 September, Malaysia head coach Tan Cheng Hoe said, “All teams will most definitely field their strongest available side in the qualifiers to obtain a favourable result. They are all dreaming of competing on the highest stage, which is the World Cup.
“But for me, I don’t think we need to worry too much about the strength of our opponents. The focus right now is to ensure that the team is well prepared for the qualifiers.
“That being said, we need to be cautious because the Indonesian players in this qualifiers appear to be better than the team which played at the 2018 AFF Cup.”
Malaysia have been drawn in Group G of the World Cup 2022/Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers alongside Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
