Cheng Hoe in limbo

Reports claim that coach Tan Cheng Hoe is now a free agent and could very well be taking over a team in the Malaysia Super League.

Cheng Hoe’s contract with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) ended on 1 January 2019 and they have yet to offer the former Kedah coach an extension as of now.

And while the 51-year-old is not at liberty to discuss his future with the Harimau Malaya squad, he has however urged the players to keep working hard ahead of the World Cup and Asia Cup qualifiers.

“I can’t comment on this, so we will just have to wait for the discussion with FAM.

“What’s important is that the players keep improving their performance. We don’t know what teams we are going to face next but I’m sure we will come up against strong teams from the Middle East, West Asia and Central Asia.

“It will be a tough hurdle but I hope that the players take it as a challenge. I think they are also eager to play on a bigger stage.

“In football, there must be change. We can’t just focus on Southeast Asia. So we must improve as individuals as well as a team,” he said.

There are rumours stating that the Cheng Hoe will not stay on as coach of the Malaysia National squad and instead move on to coaching a notable team in the Super League.
