Australia win AFF U18 Championship 2019
Defending champions Malaysia were defeated 1-0 by Australia in the final of the AFF U18 Championship 2019 at the Thang Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Monday.
The Harimau Muda squad put up a tough fight against the Australians in the final but were ultimately undone by a 79th-minute winner from Lachlan Ricky Brook who gave them a narrow 1-0 win enroute to securing a record-equaling fifth title.
Malaysia were forced into a substitution in the 75th minute following an injury to their first-choice goalkeeper Izhan who was replaced by Firdaus Irman Fadhil. And the substitute goalkeeper was forced to pick the ball out of own his net just minutes later as Australia scored the winning goal.
Brook was played through on goal and the Adelaide United forward lifted the ball over Fadhil and into the back of the net to finish off a brilliant move.
Malaysia tried their best to break down the Australian defence in the dying minutes of the game, but it proved to be fruitless.
